2023 CASE Internship Completed!

Writer's picture: Isabel ButlerIsabel Butler

And with that, my time as a grant writing intern at Westchester Community College Foundation has come to a close.

This announcement is most definitely bittersweet. I am thankful for all that I have learned and achieved as a writer at WCCF and I'm excited for where life will take me next, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn't miss all the incredible people I've worked with this summer. Two months was not long enough!

My first, and biggest, thank you has to go out to Dolores Swirin-Yao, my direct supervisor for this internship and the Executive Director of Westchester Community College Foundation. You are amazing! Thank you for being the most understanding, encouraging, and empowering boss ever; I am inspired by the way you lead. From now on, if anyone asks me what kind of leader I want to be, my response will be "I want to be like Dolores!" Thank you for trusting me with this project and giving me the space to try my hand at a field that's brand new to me. I hope I've made you proud.

I want to extend lots of thank yous to all the staff at WCCF that I was able to meet with who helped me in completing my proposals this summer. I would not have been able to do my job without your guidance! I also want to say a special thanks to Laura Barrett-Hanson, who is the Director of Grants Management at Westchester Community College, for meeting with me and giving me insight on the grant writing process. I learned a LOT just from our one meeting.

Lastly, but not "least-ly", I want to say thank you so much to the Council for Advancement and Support of Education , Carl Simien, Ph.D. , Thais Andrade , and Robyn Neely for making this internship possible. It was an opportunity of a lifetime!

It's time for the next adventure. But first, see if you can spot me in this amazing group picture we took during the conference back in late June.

(Hint: Look left!)
