ODU CLT

February 2022 - Present
Student Content Editor

Due to the nature of my position at the Center for Learning and Teaching, I am unable to include links and/or embedded documents demonstrating my editorial work. However, I have provided a detailed description below of my duties as Student Content Editor.

Content Editing

In this position, I copyedit course content sent to the Center for Learning and Teaching by ODU faculty. This can include general proofreading and editing of Canvas courses (partial and full text reviews), Word documents, PowerPoint slides, and other written instructional content. As well, I frequently revise closed captions and transcripts to match audio files embedded into course content. Accessibility checking of texts, photographs, and videos is also a requirement of my position.

Canvas Migration

Additionally, due to the timing of my employment here, I am actively involved in the migration of course content from the instructional platforms Blackboard and PLE (a CLT-made learning program) to the web-based learning management system Canvas. My duties pertaining to course migration include creating course reports for my specifically assigned courses to document migration issues and completing page-by-page reviews of migrated Canvas courses. My course reviews involve checking for content issues (incorrect/incomplete texts, formatting errors, and broken links), image issues (incorrect alt-text, size, and/or layout), and multimedia issues (issues with playback, video availability, and captioning).
