As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I took part in an ePortfolio Peer Mentor appointment to help facilitate my portfolio's curation process this semester. I specifically chose this option because I entered ODU's ePortfolio competition back in December and received some great constructive feedback that I wanted to discuss with an ePortfolio mentor. My mentor, Alexis, and I discussed a few of the suggested changes made by the ePortfolio competition judges (embedding PDFs and changing hyperlinked material), but Alexis also extended some personal suggestions. If you'd like to read her suggestions in detail, please see my previous post "ePortfolio Peer Mentor Appointment." I'll only be discussing the changes I did decide to implement in this post.
Imagery With Movement and Personality
One major change I decided to implement into my portfolio was to add elements that contained movement to my website pages. Alexis made this suggestion to me, explaining that moving elements help guide the eye and add visual variation and complexity. I am so glad I went forward with this suggestion because I believe my portfolio looks much more elevated and professional with the elements of movement I added. I think I did well keeping a cohesive theme, sticking to ocean imagery, blue and peach tones, and small but impactful details. I wanted to pick elements that would be easy on the eyes but also showcase my sweet and soft personality (i.e. the adorable "contact card" on my Contact page is exactly my style. I love hearts!)
Revising My Resume
Another change I made was embedding my resume as a PDF. The version I have uploaded now at the time of this post will most likely be updated soon since I'm starting a new job in February, so having my resume embedded instead of written directly into the site will make updating it much easier and quicker. I think it looks quite professional and easy to read. I also love the added features that come with the PDF viewer that I don't have to include myself, like the capability to print, download, and/or zoom in on my resume.
Portfolio Confidence
There are a few other minor changes I've made throughout the website just to ensure that all the pages are properly ordered, linked, and accessible. Overall, I feel really confident about the visual design and functioning of my website; I personally wouldn't change anything else about it presently. However, I am very excited to start implementing new work into my portfolio as the semester progresses!
